Medjool dates, also known as Medjoul, Madjhul or Medjul, and affectionately referred to as the "King of Dates" or "Jumbo Dates", are a premium variety of date that originally comes from the Middle East. They are distinguished by their exceptional sweetness, generous size, and wonderfully soft texture.

These royal fruits grow in hot, dry climates and are harvested in the autumn in the northern hemisphere and in the spring in the southern hemisphere. The Medjool date is the fruit of the date palm tree (Phoenix dactylifera), a family with many varieties, of which the Medjool has become the absolute favourite.

Medjool dates are grown worldwide in countries such as Israel, the Jordan Valley, the Palestinian Authority, the United States (California), Mexico, South Africa, Namibia, Morocco, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.

Why our Medjool dates from the Jordan Valley?

We import our organic Medjool dates from the Jordan Valley, a unique area between the Dead Sea and the Sea of Galilee. This region is known for the superior quality of its Medjool dates: they are darker in colour, exceptionally soft, and incredibly juicy compared to dates from other origins. Each date palm produces only one harvest per year. The harvest period occurs from September to November in the northern hemisphere and from March to May in the southern hemisphere.

Quality indicators: Size and Shell Separation

Medjool dates are carefully sorted by size (weight per fruit in grams) and the degree of skin separation (how loosely the skin is attached to the flesh).

It is important to know that this sorting is purely optical. All exported dates, regardless of their size or skin separation, are of the same high internal quality, freshness, taste, and texture. Sometimes a date with a loose skin may appear "dried out", but often the opposite is true: a high skin separation can actually indicate a very juicy and moist date.

Do not be misled by the price. More expensive dates (larger with a low skin separation) are not necessarily tastier or better than smaller dates with a higher skin separation.
